Laporta says PSG trying to destabilise Barcelona with Messi pursuit

The ex-Barça chief things the French club should keep quiet regarding the Argentine forward

Former Barcelona president Joan Laporta has spoken about Paris Saint-Germain's pursuit of Lionel Messi in an interview with RTVE.

Laporta, who is standing to become Barça president once again, also boasted about Real Madrid never winning the Champions League during his first stint at Camp Nou, between 2003 and 2010.

"With me as president of Barça, Madrid didn't win a single Champions League and I want those times to return," he said.

Madrid won four between 2014 and 2018, including three in a row, and Laporta added: "It's a shame that happened while Barça had the best player in the world with us (Messi)."

On Messi, Laporta said he's annoyed as PSG's public pursuit of him. Messi is out of contract in the summer and hasn't decided what he will do next season.

"I don't like it nor does it seem right," he added. "They could have kept quiet because it's a way of destabilising a team and a club. We're not in that game.

"If PSG want to be an elite club and be a reference, they shouldn't make these type of comments."

Barça and PSG meet each other in the Champions League later this year.
