Cruyff spoke about his comments about Laporta and reconstruction without Messi

Jordi Cruyff has spoken about the repercussions caused by his comment about his father and Joan Laporta. The Shenzhen FC coach, who Victor Font says will be his sporting director if he's elected as Barca president, said his legendary father Johan would vote for Laporta in the elections on March 7. The comments generated a controversy which he doesn't understand given "everyone knows the relationship that existed between my dad and Laporta."

"They were always friends. A lot of noise was made about what I said because we're in an electoral campaign," Cruyff told Cadena SER. "I have always said that I am to the side of the elections. It's the socios who will have to choose a new president. Meanwhile, I am focused on the contract I have with my club, I have to respect it because that's what pays me. It's always an honour to be mentioned but I don't think it will be decisive in the elections."

In addition, Jordi Cruyff explained that "no one from Victor Font's campaign said anything to me about my comments" and also offered his opinion on Lionel Messi's future.

He said: "If he doesn't stay, the reconstruction will be very difficult."

The situation surrounding Messi proves, according to Cruyff, that "these elections should have been held before. We're almost in March and this should have been done in November of December."
