The RFEF wants to avoid a confrontation with the Catalan federation so soon before the presidential elections

The Spanish Football Federation will not ban 'esteladas' -- flags which express a desire for Catalonia's independence --  at the Copa del Rey final between Barcelona and Sevilla at the Wanda Metropolitano, according to newspaper ABC.

The Federation has no intention of feeding any confrontation with Barca at the moment and will not forbid the entrance of a symbol which is not prohibited by Spanish legislation.

If esteladas were prohibited it would create another conflict, not just with Barcelona, but also with the Catalan Football Federation, which has a large sway in the Federation's elections, set to takee place in the next month, as it holds 10 percent of the votes.

"Now is not the time for the Federation to make such delicate decisions and there is no intention of generating any controversy around the Copa del Rey final. Right now, we have no governance and the priority is to hold elections as soon as possible so we can get back to normality and we can govern Spanish football with authority again," said a source at the Federation.
