Real Betis won the Copa del Rey at La Cartuja in Seville on Saturday night

It took penalties to decide it, but in the end Real Betis did it, and they deserved it. For Joaquin’s legend, Nabil Fekir’s skill, Sergio Canales’s quality and Borja Iglesias’s persistence.

Yunus Musah missed his spot-kick for Valencia which ended up decisive in the shoot-out, with tears flowing from captain Jose Gaya at the end, in front of fans who still showed their appreciation at La Cartuja in Seville.

Betis won their first cup since 2005 thanks to Juan Miranda’s winning penalty.

Iglesias had put Betis in front with a header from Hector Bellerin’s cross, while Hugo Duro levelled with a neat chip.

Juanmi and Canales hit the woodwork while Fekir came close, with Betis on top and Valencia scrapping to stay level.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side ended up triumphant as they capitalised on this being only the second Copa del Rey final without giants Barcelona or Real Madrid for 12 years.
