Real Madrid managed to see off third division opposition but it wasn't easy

Real Madrid survived a scare to come from behind to beat Alcoyano 3-1 on Wednesday and book their place in the last 16 of the Copa del Rey.

Madrid were knocked out in Alcoy last year and history looked like it could repeat itself when Daniel Vega Cintas canceled out Eder Militao's opener.

However, there was to be no fairytale like there was 350 days ago, with Marco Asensio's deflected effort restoring Madrid's lead with 14 minutes to play.

Substitute Isco, via goalkeeper Jose Juan, added a third two minutes later to guarantee Madrid's place in the next round at the expense of the third division side.

Madrid's scare came just two hours after Barcelona had to come from behind to beat third division opposition as well.

Second-half goals from Ousmane Dembele and Ferran Jutgla canceled out Hugo Diaz's surprise opener to send the holders into the hat for the next round.

There was one surprise on Wednesday, though, as third division Atletico Baleares dumped out LaLiga side Celta Vigo thanks to two goals from Manel Martinez.

Elsewhere, there were wins for Mallorca, Real Sociedad, Valencia, Real Betis and Rayo Vallecano as the night passed without too many shocks.
