Marcelo elbow on Lionel Messi draws blood -- but goes unpunished

Hernández Hernández either didn't see the incident or didn't feel it was worth a card

Leo Messi had to leave the pitch for a few moments due to the amount of blood

Referee Alejandro José Hernández Hernández let Marcelo off with an elbow in Sunday's Clasico.

The Real Madrid player caught Lionel Messi in the face, with the Barcelona man forced off the pitch for a number of minutes as he tried to stop the bleeding. It was an action the referee did not feel was worthy of a card, though.

Moments before Casemiro had already picked up a yellow for a foul on Messi, who was creating a lot of danger. Then, challenging for a header, Marcelo used his elbow to beat Messi to the ball, who was left on the floor with a lot of blood coming from his mouth. As expected, Messi was the player who was providing Zidane's side with the most problems.

When the Argentine came back onto the pitch, he had to play with a tissue in his mouth, so extreme was the bleeding. Fortunately it did not affect his games. He was off the pitch for two minutes and then, 10 minutes, later he scored his side's equaliser.
