Madrid-Barça will be played on 20 December in the first round
The World Club Cup final will be played on 16 December so Madrid may request a change of date
The season hasn’t started but there’s already some controversy. The draw for the league fixtures scheduled the first clásico for game week 17, to be played on 20 December.
Firstly, it is unusual for a clásico to be played on a working Wednesday and is not as good for fans. The wishes of Mediapro, who hold the rights for La Liga, must also be considered – surely they would prefer it to be played on a weekend.
What’s more, Real Madrid could be playing in the World Club Cup final in Abu Dhabi just four days earlier. Real Madrid have already successful requested that the Spanish Super Cup be put back form 11 and 14 August to 13 and 16 August, with the first leg played at Camp Nou.
