Barcelona and Real Madrid both in great form heading into the Clasico

| sport

Koeman and Zidane's sides are both on long unbeaten runs in the league

Barcelona and Real Madrid are two in form teams going into Saturday's Clasico at the Alfredo Di Stefano. Barça are 19 games unbeaten in La Liga, picking up 89.4 percent of points in that time, while Madrid are also on a good run: nine games without defeat.

Since Ronald Koeman's Barça lost to Cadiz in December, they have won 16 games and drawn three (all at Camp Nou against Valencia, Eibar and Cadiz). In total, they have picked up 51 points from a possible 57. That run has allowed them to climb the table, overtaking Madrid and moving within one point of Atletico, who were 12 points clear not so long ago.

Barça hit rock bottom vs. Cadiz. In their first 10 league games, they lost four, picking up 14 points from a possible 30 (46.6 percent). The next game was a 1-0 win over Levante at Camp Nou and since then they have picked up almost 90 percent of possible points. On the road, they have picked up 27 from 27 and at home, 24 from 30.

Using that period as a reference, things haven't gone bad for Madrid in that time, either. Zidane's side have played a game fewer than Barça during that time (they started the season a week earlier) and have won 13, drawn four and lost just one game, picking up 43 points from a possible 54.

In contrast to Barça, Madrid have been better at home. At the Alfredo Di Stefano, they have picked up 25 points from 30, losing to Levante and drawing with Real Sociedad. They haven't lost since that Levante game, winning seven and drawing two (La Real and Atletico) of their last nine.

In terms of goals, Barça have scored 48 in the above mentioned period at 2.52 per game. Madrid have scored 34 at a rate of 1.88 per game. Barça have conceded 13 and Madrid 11.

Both teams are also chasing a double. Barça are into the Copa del Rey final and Madrid are well placed in the Champions League after beating Liverpool in the first leg of their quarterfinal this week. If they come through the second leg, Chelsea or Porto will be waiting in the semifinal.
