Barcelona 1-1 Real Madrid: Player ratings from Clasico draw

Barcelona let their lead slip with Sergio Ramos cancelling out Luis Suarez's opening strike right at the death

Marc Andre ter Stegen 6

The goalkeeper grew into the game after some early nerves. More secure as the minutes passed.

Sergi Roberto 7

Always looking to move forward down his wing and stood up to Benzema and Cristiano, the two monsters operating in his zone. Played with the qualities of a veteran, showing he will continue to be Barcelona’s right-back.

Gerard Pique 8

Continued in the same line as in recent games, solid, good at cutting out balls and attent when needing to cover. Got the better of Cristiano and Co, although Ramos got away from him at the end for an equaliser.

Javier Mascherano 7

The Argentine likes these types of game. Didn’t make errors, although could have done more for the goal.

Jordi Alba 7

Worked as necessary for the game, applying the right pressure and anticipating well. Conscious that the opponent would not let him get away with too many attacking runs but worked perfectly when he did.

Sergio Busquets 8

Good with the ball at his feet, solid when he had to stop rivals, he is finding his best form. He sparkled in the middle for Barcelona.

Ivan Rakitic 5

Didn’t get forward much and found it hard to stop Madrid’s play, with his compatriot Modric particularly troublesome. Lucho took him off in the second half.

Andre Gomes 5

Struggled under the magnitude of the game, and had little effect. Did not combine well with Rakitic and this gave Barcelona problems. Far too little in a big game.

Lionel Messi 8

Omnipresent, the Argentine led Barcelona. He focused a lot on combination play, moving it, playing and allowing others to play. Did not score but his presence was essential for Barcelona.

Neymar 8

He loves these type of games and you can tell. A couple of slips in the first half but he was intense, active and involved in the game, looking for the one-on-ones and his team-mates. Set up Suarez’s goal and almost scored a second, hitting the game like a hurricane.

Luis Suarez 8

Rarely had any chances but showed why he’s one of the best strikers in the world with his goal in the 52nd minute. He beat Varane to the ball to head past Navas. Fought as hard as usual, fierce against Madrid’s defence.

SUBS

Andres Iniesta 8

A lifesaver, recovered from his injury—it was a surprise he did not start. Barcelona missed him. In the 30 minutes he played he calmed the team, who were so much better with their captain on the pitch, helping Barcelona shine. His team looked for him and he responded brilliantly, with one golden pass to Messi particularly notable.

Arda Turan 4

Came on at 1-0 for 15 minutes, insufficient to influence the game, but pitting him against Marcelo was an error that ended in Ramos’ late goal.

Denis Suarez 5

Came on with four minutes to go, could not influence the game.
