The local hero scored twice to make it five goals in a week

They have their own particular Lionel Messi in Vigo. If Iago Aspas didn't exist, they would have to invent him. On Sunday, against Real Sociedad, he was once again decisive, scoring two goals as Celta won 3-1 to continue their recent return to form.

The importance of Aspas is obvious. The local hero has participated in seven of their last eight goals since returning from injury last weekend (five goals and two assists). After scoring his second goal against La Real, he was booked, meaning he will miss the next game against Atletico Madrid but will then be free to play the final six games as the relegation battle hots up.

The reality is that without Aspas, there's no Celta Vigo.

Willian Jose scored from the penalty spot to give La Real the lead at Balaidos but Celta responded when Aspas was brought down in the area. He dusted himself off to level from 12 yards before Willian Jose saw red. Aspas then edged Celta ahead in the 70th minute before striker partner Maxi Gomez added the third goal late on. Celta moved above Real Valladolid and Villarreal with the win, leaving the relegation zone behind them for now.

Their climb up the table coincides with Aspas' return from a long injury layoff. He scored twice as they came from two down to beat Villarreal last weekend and scored one more and made two in the midweek draw with Huesca. With him in this kind of form, Celta will back themselves to remain in La Liga this season.
