Lazio president Claudio Lotito rejects playoff involving Inter & Atalanta

Serie A was indefinitely suspended in March due to the coronavirus pandemic. With the league stopped, Juventus are top of the league and have a one-point lead over Lazio, who are second.

The restrictions in Italy are slowly being lifted and there are plans for teams to be allowed to return to training from May 18.

However, there are still no dates or conditions in place for a possible restart of Serie A. Among the different possibilities being contemplated, a playoff to decide the title has been discussed.

Lazio president Claudio Lotito has told La Repubblica that he would be open to a one-off game against Juve to decide top spot.

"A final between Lazio and Juventus?" he said. "I would accept it but it won't be me that puts that possibility forward. We are one point behind Juve and in the first game we beat them 3-1 -- and we beat them in the Supercopa.

"And there's still the second game to go against them. To be fair, a team like Inter, who have eight points fewer than us, or Atalanta, who have 14 fewer, tell me if they should be involved."
