Arturo Vidal tested positive while with the Chilean national team this week

Inter Milan midfielder Arturo Vidal has been hospitalised after testing positive for Covid-19, according to a statement from the Chile national time.

Vidal has suffered complications due to tonsilitis but is said to be doing well, although he will miss this week's World Cup qualifier against Argentina.

"The Chilean national team's medical team, per a request from the player Arturo Vidal, informs that the player tested positive for Covid-19," a statement said.

“Arturo has been hospitalised and isolated from the group for more than 72 hours in a preventive measure indicated by the medical team, due to the presence of previously reported severe pleural tonsilitis.”

Vidal, meanwhile, posted on social media: "I will recover soon. And I ask you, please, whoever can be vaccinated to do so!"
