Xavi: The first thing to do is speak to the players
Barcelona's new coach is heading home and he's got work to do
Just before flying home to Barcelona, Xavi spoke to the special correspondents who went to Qatar to cover his departure from Al Sadd and appointment at the club of his life.
“It’s the biggest challenge of my career. I am very happy, I return home, I return to Barcelona, it’s a huge challenge,” he said.
“I am very grateful to Barca, they came to Doha, there was the ending of my contract and the clause and both of us did our part. I’m very grateful to the club.
“The first is to talk to the players, explain them the ideas I have and work hard. Make a team, work in a group with a lot of hope and enthusiasm to do things right.”
He also thanked interim coach Sergi Barjuan for “all the work he is doing”.
Xavi added: “Coaching my friends is a positive, it’s an advantage, I know how they train and how they are, I see it as an advantage.”
