What can Xavi do with Luuk de Jong?
The Dutch forward is unlikely to fit into the coach's plans but there could be a way
Luuk de Jong was an express petition from Ronald Koeman, but even he didn’t use him much. The Sevilla forward has played 398 minutes for Barcelona across nine games and scored one goal, against Levante.
The hot potato must now be handled by Xavi Hernandez. It would take a miracle to turn him into an important player for Barcelona. His characteristics don’t fit what Xavi wants from his team. Forwards that triumph at Camp Nou are dynamic. They can occupy various zones in attack. However if Xavi plays wide forwards it could work to have a box striker who can receive crosses.
Barcelona are trying to move him on in the winter window, SPORT have reported. The 31 year old forward is not a Dutch international at this point so Xavi will get a good look at him in training and may decide to give him a chance. A squad does needs a variety of players and that could be his salvation.
