The win over Atletico Madrid has awakened optimism within Barcelona. In the 85th minute against Alaves, there were critical voices trying to bury the Xavi effect, but Frenkie de Jong scored and now this 4-2 win allows Barcelona to take off. It’s true they have been inconsistent, but the numbers show, Xavi is improving on what Ronald Koeman managed.

Xavi took over Barcelona in ninth. Now they are fourth. With Koeman, the team won 15 points in 10 weeks. 50% of points. WIth Xavi, the team has managed 21 in the same number of games, 70% of the total, 20% more than Koeman.

Xavi has won 46% of games; that’s seven from 15. They have beaten Espanyol, Villarreal, Elche, Mallorca, Linares, Alaves and Atletico. Drawn with Benfica, Osasuna, Sevilla, Granada and lost against Betis, Bayern, Real Madrid and Athletic, the latter two in extra-time.

Koeman won five out of 13 games, 38%. They drew three (Athletic, Granada, Cadiz) and were beaten by Bayern, Benfica, Atletico, Real Madrid and Rayo Vallecano.
