Xavi after Girona stalemate: Barcelona would have taken this position
The coach gave value to the 13 point lead built over Real Madrid in LaLiga
Barcelona coach Xavi Hernández accepted the draw against Girona and recalled that the gap to Real Madrid has increased by one point with just ten games to go.
Speaking to DAZN, Xavi admitted that "we would have taken this gap before the start of the season," although he added that "when you don't win and, even more so at home, you think that we could be 15 points ahead, but we have to look at it positively and we are 13 points clear."
The coach continued: "We're in a very good situation and I'm not worried. The game was good, with lots of chances. We did some very good things, we were very good at pressing high and winning balls back."
His regret was that "we were lacking in accuracy. If we take the result, we can't be positive with a point at home, although the bottom line is that we are 13 points ahead with 10 games to go."
Jordi Alba on the wing
Xavi looked for imaginative solutions, such as playing Jordi Alba as a winger, something that calls into question the depth of the squad.
The coach did not want to go into this aspect in depth, stressing that "the main objective was to win the league and we are well on our way. We've got it there, we're in the fight."
On Alba, he said that "a final pass was missing from our game, which he has. He had to get inside the box to make the final pass, we tried in every way and the ball didn't go in."
His praise extended to Míchel, the Girona coach, of whom he said that "he is a very good coach. With Arnau inside in the first half he caused us problems. The summary of the game is that if we scored before half-time, it would have changed the story. We lacked effectiveness".
On Girona, he added: "We are up against teams who are playing for their lives. For them, this point is crucial in the fight for salvation. Next week in Getafe it will be a similar situation. Girona drew at the Bernabéu and we have to give value to this league. Madrid lost against Villarreal... and we have to see it that way, even if others want to see it differently."
