Xavi Hernandez has been a big backer of Dani Alves. The new coach's opinion has helped change Barcelona's mind over what to do with the Brazilian.
Alves offered himself to Barça but the club weren't sure about the deal.
Xavi is convinced that even though the defender is 38 years old he can still operate at elite level. But above all, he values his competitive spirit.
In a squad with a lot of young players, Xavi thinks Alves can bring as much in training as in games.
He also thinks Alves can be a leader in difficult times on the pitch too. Furthermore, Barcelona have not been convinced by any of the signings made to replace him. Conscious of that, Xavi believes his return would be prudent.
