Barcelona captain Andres Iniesta did not start against Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday, which caused a lot of debate before the game kicked off.
The game was an important game for Barca as it was their first chance to clinch the Liga title and it was an important game for Iniesta, who had confirmed the day before thay he is leaving the club at the end of the season after 16 years.
Jon Aspiazu, Ernesto Valverde's assistant coach, explained the thinking behind the decision before kick off when speaking to Barça TV and Movistar.
"Iniesta "was feeling a bit of discomfort after Saturday's game (the Copa final against Sevilla)," Aspiazu revealed.
"so as a precaution we decided to put him on the bench, even though we know it's an important game and he wants to play every game possible between now and the end of the season.
"In the end he wants to play all the games he can, but we thought it was a good idea to put him on the bench."
