What do Barcelona players think of Ronald Koeman?
The dressing room appreciated what he has done given where they started off
Ronald Koeman’s future is in the air. Joan Laporta wants to meet the coach ahead of taking a decision over who will be in charge next season and, of course, the dressing room is talking about it.
The players value Koeman’s day to day management. They have come a long way forward from when he took over after the Bayern crushing and Leo Messi’s Burofax. Koeman created a good atmosphere again.
His relationship with the players is cordial. Not great, not bad. There is mutual respect. He does and says as he thinks. He’s been brave with the youngsters, with Pedri, Mingueza and Ilaix coming through thanks to him.
Tactically there is more doubts. The group has adapted well to Koeman’s systems, including the 3-5-2. However when it comes to game management, he’s lacked a but of bravery and nous. The changes are always the same and it’s hard for him to break away from the plan he had before it started. The team has been predictable.
There are three games that mark the memory of the dressing room. The first was against Cadiz at Camp Nou, then Granada at Camp Nou and finally Levante last week. That hurt the team and left them thinking they can’t win big trophies.
It’s up to Laporta now. The president will have the final word, and in the dressing room they are waiting to see what the chief decides.
