Vissel Kobe poised to sign Thomas Vermaelen
The Belgian is ready to join the Japanese side where Andres Iniesta plays
Thomas Vermaelen is staying in the same hotel as Barcelona in Kobe. The 34 year old Belgian international finished his contract with Barca on June 30 and is in Japan to seal a deal with Vissel Kobe.
Vermaelen, who could be presented on Saturday, is coinciding with Barca who will play Vissel in their next friendly. Their owner is Hiroshi Mikitani, the founter of Rakuten, Barca's main sponsor.
Kobe will sign Vermaelen for what's left of their current season and another two more. There he will coincide with Andres Iniesta, David Villa and Sergi Samper.
Vermaelen arrived at Barca in 2016, but injuries stopped him from holding down a regular place. He played 53 games, scoring a goal and providing an assist.
