Spain tried to get him to play for them instead of Argentina but Leo said no

Vicente del Bosque gave an interview to 'Super Deportivo Radio' in Argentina in which he explained how Spain tried to get him to play for them.

"Messi is Messi, there's only one, it would have been a dream to coach him," said Del Bosque. "The Spanish FA did everything possible to get Messi to play in a Spain shirt, but he did not want to because he wanted to play for his country. Messi would have been an added bonus to what we already had, obviously."

Some criticise Leo for not having won the World Cup with Argentina but Del Bosque doesn't think that is important. "A World Cup wouldn't add or take away anything he has achieved," added the Spaniard.
