Louis van Gaal has told 'Tuttomercatoweb' that he has doubts about Memphis Depay's potential transfer to Barcelona from Lyon.

According to the Dutch coach, the forward is a long way from the level of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo and may not find it wasy to settle in at Camp Nou.

"There's always a question mark," Van Gaal said. "Depay is an interesting player, especially when he's free to play. But we have to consider adapting to a new culture and a new team. And the first year is always the hardest. Look at [Matthijs] de Ligt, or Frenkie de Jong."

Van Gaal, who coached Memphis when he was the Manchester United manager, also isn't convinced by just how good the forward is.

"Depay has talent, but he's not [Lionel] Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo," he added.

Remember that Barça are interested in Memphis and reportedly have agreed on personal terms with the player. However, it will be trickier to reach an agreement with Lyon, although the fact he's in the final year of his contract helps.
