Valverde wants even more signings before the end of August
The Barça coach urged the board to make the squad better
He says the club are open to all possibilities until August 31
Ernesto Valverde was delighted with Barcelona's 2-0 win over Alaves on Saturday, with Lionel Messi scoring both the goals.
Messi missed a first half penalty but scored twice after the break to ensure Barça begin the La Liga season with back-to-back wins.
However, despite the win, Valverde said the club still need to improve the squad before the end of the month, when the transfer window closes.
“We hope that when August 31 arrives and the transfer market closes we have a more competitive team,” the coach said.
“I will work with the players I have got, but we hope to have an even better team and we’re open [to signings] if we have a chance, that’s clear.”
Barça signed Ousmane Dembele for a club record fee on Friday, but are still hopeful of landing Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho.
They have had three bids rejected for the Brazilian but hope Liverpool will eventually sell, with the player keen to move to Camp Nou.
