Valverde reaches 50 victories as FC Barcelona manager
The coach has been in the Camp Nou dugout for 72 matches and last night achieved the milestone of winning his 50th game
On the 29th May 2017 Josep Maria Bartomeu announced that Ernesto Valverde would replace Luis Enrique as manager of FC Barcelona.
If we look back now, a year and a half later, it's hard to argue that Valverde's tenure has been anything but a success if we check the numbers.

Last season began with a convincing Spanish Super Cup loss to rivals Real Madrid which set the alarm bells ringing almost immediately. Valverde then oversaw Barça equal their best ever start in LaLiga when they won nine of their opening ten fixtures.
From there the team enjoyed some fantastic results. The 3-0 win at the Santiago Bernabeu and the 5-0 drubbing of Sevilla in the Copa del Rey final standing out as the best performances of the season. Although it's important not to ignore the crushing 3-0 defeat away at Roma in the Champions League, this after winning the first leg 4-1.

The team went on to win LaLiga last season and with just one match to go, they had 26 wins and 8 draws. Against Inter Milan on Wednesday, Valverde reached 50 wins since taking over at the Camp Nou.

Since Valverde was named as Barça's manager he's taken change of 72 matches: he's won 50, drawn 16 and lost just 6.
Those are numbers to be proud of but the one area where it's been lacking is in the Champions League, the one trophy the whole team wants to win this season.
golden anniversary
With triumph number 50 under Valverde's belt, it completed his 'Golden Anniversary' as Barcelona coach. Valverde now has to deal with another challenge and that's play six matches without Messi. So far, he's won one out of one without the Argentinian star.
