The turf was laid four days ago and started ripping up immediately

All the fears came true, with the pitch at the Jose Zorrilla a disaster. Valladolid's decision to re-lay the pitch just four days before the game was a calamity and both teams had to play on a disgraceful surface with holes appearing all over the place.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen for one was spotted replacing lumps of turf back into their holes. Barcelona's passing was disrupted and even Lionel Messi was struggling to keep his footing.

The Catalans went in at half-time with the score 0-0, and could quite rightly blame the pitch for stopping them from playing at their usual level.
