The striker scored what could prove precious goal in the title race at Mestalla

Robert Lewandowski's 18th goal of the season earned Barcelona a dramatic 1-0 win against Valencia at Mestalla on Saturday.

Lewandowski struck in the 93rd minute to earn Barca three points and move them level with Real Madrid, who host Girona on Sunday.

Xavi started with Ansu Fati and Ousmane Dembele in attack with Lewandowski and it was Ansu who had the best chances in the first half.

The young forward had one goal ruled out for offside and was denied by Giorgi Mamardashvili after a brilliant Pedri pass.

Barca lost Eric Garcia to a groin injury, with Marcos Alonso, but were not overly troubled by Valencia until the second half.

Samuel Lino thought he had opened the scoring but VAR ruled his goal out because Marcos Andre had handled the ball in the build up.

Jules Kounde then limped off as Barca's injury crisis in defence continued, with Gerard Pique coming on in his place.

Barca should have won it when Ferran Torres missed from close range and neither Raphinha nor Lewandowski could turn the rebound him.

After that it looked like it would end goalless but then Lewandowski, as he so often does, won the game at the death.
