Barça need to sell and free up money to invest in the first team

Arda Turan and Mathieu are available but others may be sold, too

Barcelona are the first to accept that the first team squad needs a shake-up. Said in another way, that improvements are needed in all areas.

That reality has opened a debate inside the club, given not everyone agrees on everything. In the end, the final decision will always be taken by sporting director Robert Fernandez. He's in carge of letting players go, signings... and choosing the new coach.

All that adds to the reality: Barça have to sign top level players. Players who will be regulars in the side. And to do such operations, you need a lot of euros to make a mark on an inflated market.

Euros that Barcelona don't have and in addition they have to also manage the wages being paid out so that it doesn't exceed 70 per cent of the club's total income.

EXIT PLAN

Therefore, Barça have to lose a number of players. Not just for sporting reasons, but for economic reasons, too.

In the current first team, there are two players who will be on the transfer list this summer: Arda Turan and Jeremy Mathieu. The former's had a disappointing season, despite starting well. The latter's cycle has ended at Barcelona.

After that, there are seven players with which anything could happen. If a good offer arrives, the club would be willing to listen and sell. Money talks.

There are certain players -- such as Andre Gomes, Paco Alcacer and even Rafinha -- with whom there is conflicting opinions. They each have defenders and detractors, but none of them enjoy the 'untouchability' of other team-mates.

Gomes and Alcacer, in addition, were a personal bet of Robert, always with the blessing of Luis Enrique. Now, there's a new reality: with Lucho leaving will the new coach get involved in comings and goings or will he leave it all to the sporting director?
