After Neymar was ruled out of the Copa America through injury, it's time for Philippe Coutinho to step up and lead this Brazil team to glory.
The underfire Barça midfielder grabbed an assist and scored a goal in the friendly victory over Honduras. Now it's time for him to put aside his irregular season for his club behind him.
"The collective play is the objective. Coutinho's had a difficult year at Barcelona. It was demanding and they jeered him a lot but here, in this team, he's our reference point. Especially when Neymar isn't available."
It appears as if Coutinho is beginning to show his best form for the national team. "In the two friendly matches we've played, he was the best player on the pitch. Not only for his assists and goals but for his defensive work. He's happy again."
Silva wants Coutinho to feel valued and comfortable in the team. "In the first friendly match, he tried to calm the match down and asked Neymar to help more. We needed him, especially now that Neymar isn't here."
