The Spanish FA's ruling means that Valverde could name all five non-EU members in Barça's squad should he see fit to do so

The Real Federación Española de Fútbol (RFEF) have announced that the one-off Spanish Super Cup match against Sevilla in Tangier won't have restrictions on how many non-EU players can be involved.

According to RFEF's official statement, the match is "an official competition at state level, supervised and organised by the RFEF" and, in line with the law regarding work's legal rights, "isn't classified as a professional match".

"It's for this reason that, in accordance with the law regarding football competitions which aren't recognised as professional matches, there's no restriction in regards to how many non-EU players can be used in the same competition."

Essentially this means the match is considered a friendly rather than official match.

According to the law: "All obstacles or restrictions which impede foreigners who are legally based in Spain from taking part in sporting activities which aren't professional, like the Spanish Super Cup, should be eliminated."

"As such, the Spanish Super Cup final has never put a limit on non-EU players and both teams can name as many players as they wish to take part in the match."

This means that Ernesto Valverde could name Philippe Coutinho, Arthur Melo, Malcom, Arturo Vidal and Marlon Santos in his squad.
