The Yerry Mina decision has been delayed

Depending on how he does at the World Cup he will be loaned out or even sold

Loan or transfer. That is what Barcelona staff have let Jair Mina, the uncle and agent of Yerry Mina, know.

Ernesto Valverde wants four central defenders in his squad for next season. They are Gerard Pique, Samuel Umtiti, Thomas Vermaelen and, the club hope, Sevilla’s Clement Lenglet.

That means that Yerry Mina will have to go. While Vermaelen has satisfied Ernesto Valverde, Mina has not impressed on the occasions he has played. Despite his qualities Valverde thinks Mina is not adjusting to the type of defender that Barcelona need.

They spoke to his agents and let them know they will wait until after the 2018 World Cup to decide what to do with Yerry. They want him to go to Russia and show his qualities.

On one hand they could loan him out, and see if he gets used to European football and eventually looks capable of adapting to the Barcelona game. On the other hand, if an interesting offer arrives they might sell him.

Barca paid Palmeiras 12 million euros for his signing. Yerry seems a better fit for more physical, counter-attacking teams, who don’t play with the defence so high up. That could be Serie A or some Premier League teams. He would also feel better in a defence of five.
