The voting process to decide new Barça captains after Busquets & Alba exits
Sergi Roberto and Ter Stegen are the only two captains left from last season's quartet
FC Barcelona started last season with four captains: Sergio Busquets, Sergi Roberto, Jordi Alba and Gerard Piqué. Midway through the season, Piqué announced his retirement and with his departure German goalkeeper Marc-André Ter Stegen joined the quartet of captains.
Now, with the departure of Busquets and Alba, only Sergi Roberto and Ter Stegen remain of the captains set in December. That is why at the presentation of Xavi's Soccer School, which is celebrating 25 years, the Barça coach was asked about this change in the captaincy.
Xavi assessed the departure of the captains and announced how the changeover will take place: "[Busquets and Alba] are very big losses. They were two references in the dressing room. Sergi Roberto is staying, Ter Stegen... Let's see the captains. We have to take on new roles. There will be votes [among the squad] for the captains. Total democracy. They have to feel comfortable".
Therefore, we will have to wait for the return of all the players in the pre-season for that vote to take place and we will know who will wear the captain's armband.
