The three alternatives to Sergi Roberto at right-back for Barcelona

The three alternatives to Sergi Roberto at right-back for Barcelona

Luis Enrique has three options when it comes to covering Roberto's injury this weekend

Luis Enrique has a genuine headache ahead of Deportivo La Coruna's visit this weekend. He doesn't have either of his two full-backs available due to the FIFA virus: Jordi Alba and Sergi Roberto both picked up knocks. In the case of Alba, French left-back Lucas Digne can take his place and Jeremy Mathieu is another option. But in the case of Sergi Roberto, Luis Enrique has a problem to solve.

In normal conditions there would be nothing else to talk about: Aleix Vidal would be the man to take the right-back position. But the lack of 'feeling' Luis Enrique has demonstrated for the former Sevilla man -- he's gone six games without even being in the squad -- has opened the door to other alternatives.

In fact, against Leganes Luis Enrique lined up without Sergi Roberto or Vidal. Instead he played a back three, with Javier Mascherano on the right accompanied by Rafinha, who was acting almost as a wing back. The truth is, after a difficult start, it didn't go too badly as Barça won 5-1 in Butarque. However, the Argentine will arrive back late from Argentina's game against Paraguay late on Wednesday night (Thursday morning CET).

The other option which cannot be ruled out and, as of today, seems the most improbable, is that a B team player is called up to play at right-back. There are two names who in principle could take on this role: Sergi Palencia and Nili.
