The English paper says Barça will move for the Argentine in the summer

Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing Nicolas Otamendi, Manchester City's Argentine defender, before the transfer market closes, according to The Sun. The news comes hours after Pep Guardiola admitted that the player is not happy.

The English newspaper says the "strange move" would allowe City to gain muscle in the fight for Ajax centre-back Matthijs de Ligt.

Otamendi has lost his place in Pep's team. This season, he's played 10 Premier League games when, not long ago, he was untouchable for the Catalan coach. At 30, he's seen John Stones and Aymeric Laporte move ahead of him. There is also competition from captain Vincent Kompany.

Guardiola's recognised that Otamendi "is not happy. When he plays, he's happy; when he doesn't play, he's not happy, like all footballer," leaving doubts about his future. The coach added: "We would like to keep him, but that depend on the player and his agent."

After these words, The Sun assure that Barcelona will make an offer in the coming hours for the Argentine.

De Ligt INTEREST

Otamendi's situation in the squad could be even more complicated in the future if City finally win the race to sign Ajax's De Ligt.

A number of Europe's top clubs are chasing the 19-year-old defender, who's valued at 50 million euros.
