The story behind Messi's latest goal celebration against Leganes

Everyone was surprised by the pose Messi struck after scoring from the penalty spot

Barcelona's match against Leganes was perhaps tougher than imagined but in the end they knew how to suffer and come away with the three points, which was the important thing.

Ansu Fati opened the scoring at a delicate moment just before half time, with Lionel Messi sealing the win in the second half by netting a penalty which he had won himself.

What came after Messi's goal was perhaps what most caught the attention, though. The Argentine celebrated his 21st league goal of the season with a pose that saw him place one hand on his hip and point the finger on his other hand up in the sky.

No one was sure what it was. But now we know.

The 699th goal of Messi's professional career for club and country was dedicated to his children. He was imitating a character from a game that they play together.

It's not the first time he has used a celebration to send a message to his kids, who is devoted to. He has also dedicated celebrations to his wife, Antonela, in the past.

"Leo Messi dedicated his 699th career goal to his three children by imitating the pose of one of the characters who features in a game the family often play together as he celebrated his strike," his official website explained.
