Kevin Prince Boateng could come into Barça's side for his La Liga debut

Ernesto Valverde doesn't have time to celebrate his contract renewal at Barcelona. On Saturday his side face Real Valladolid in La Liga with Tuesday's Champions League trip to Lyon around the corner. It's always a tough to pick the side but this time it's especially so.

At the back, one of Nelson Semedo or Sergi Roberto will be left on the bench. No conclusion will be drawn, but the one who rests could be in line to start in France. On the other flank, Jordi Alba's just completed a ban and will start. In the middle, Thomas Vermaelen could allow Gerard Pique his first rest in the league this season.

There are also doubts in midfield, despite the absence of the injured Arthur. Rakitic or Busquets could start on the bench, with Aleña or even Sergi Roberto or Coutinho playing in midfield. Even Arturo Vidal, who is likely to start at Lyon, could be rested.

In attack, Ousmane Dembele needs minutes after his injury and save any surprises will occupy one of the three forward roles. Lionel Messi and Kevin Prince Boateng could accompany him. If the Sassuolo man wasn't side for these games, it is diffiuclt to see when he will play. Luis Suarez should rest.

If Messi does start, it would leave Malcom out of the side. The Brazilian's fine Clasico showing has not been rewarded with more minutes just yet.

In any case, Barça are obliged to get the three points to keep ahead of Madrid in La Liga (the gap's currently six points) and to head to Lyon in good form. Following Lyon, there are trips to Sevilla and Real Madrid (twice). What does Valverde have up his sleeve?
