The saddest double from Lionel Messi

LALIGA | Barça-UD Las Palmas (3-0): Messi marcó el 2-0 a pase de Denis Suárez / | LALIGA

The Argentine scored his 301st and 302nd goals at Camp Nou but nobody saw them

Leo keeps breaking records and has now surpassed Puyol's appearance total

Leo Messi didn't miss his date with the goal, not even when there were no fans and silence filled Camp Nou. The Argentine star struck twice in Barcelona's 3-0 win over Las Palmas, his 301st and 302nd goals at Camp Nou in a Barcelona shirt.

Messi had helped the Catalans open the scoring with a corner which was headed in by Sergio Busquets in the 49th minute, before grabbing his first from a Denis Suarez pass in the 70th, and his second shortly after that when he reached Luis Suarez's ball.

Messi has 11 league goals in his best start to a season ever, equalling what he achieved in 2011-12. On that occasion he managed it a week earlier, in the sixth, but in the seventh he was unable to score. Messi also has two Champions League goals and one Spanish Super Cup goal.

This, though, was Messi's saddest double, at an empty Camp Nou. Leo also managed to surpass Carles Puyol's record of 593 appearances by making his 594th, Barcelona's third top appearance maker of all time now. It's a shame he couldn't celebrate on such a historic day with the fans.
