The reaction from Matthijs de Ligt to Barcelona's interest in him
The young Dutch defender is one of the club's main targets to strengthen the squad next summer
Ajax's young Dutch defender, Matthijs de Ligt, is one of FC Barcelona's top transfer targets for next season. Barça, however, aren't the only European side interested in adding de Ligt to their ranks. Barcelona have been following his progress for a while now but so too have Champions League group rivals Tottenham.
Matthijs de Ligt remains calm despite the rumours of interest from Barça. He wants to focus on the job at hand with Ajax as well as the Holland national team. Just this week, De Ligt spoke with 'FourFourTwo' about the rumours surrounding his future.
"To be honest, it isn't anything special for me. There are so many newspapers which write things that I prefer not to pay attention to them. At the moment, I haven't received any information about that so I prefer to concentrate on Ajax," added De Ligt. "It's always nice to see your name linked with these types of clubs but, I insist, at the moment I've not heard anything about them."
It'll be interesting to see where De Ligt ends up next season. Perhaps it is worth remembering that Tottenham also have the player's former teammate in their ranks, Davinson Sanchez. "On the pitch he's an animal."
