FC Barcelona have signed Íñigo Martínez for the 2023-24 season and beyond, on a two-year deal. The defender arrives from Athletic Club as a free agent after finishing his contract with the red and whites.

With this signing, Barça have secured a technically gifted defender, with good ball control and a strong defensive presence. In addition, it shores up the defence with a left-sided centre-back that they were lacking.

The Basque defender has signed a contract for two seasons, until 30 June 2025. Íñigo Martínez will receive a salary of around 9 million euros gross per season, which is similar to the amount he received while playing for Athletic. In addition, the termination clause for the player from Ondarroa will be 400 million euros.

Íñigo Martínez came through the youth ranks at Real Sociedad, where he later established himself as a top centre-back in LaLiga. He later joined Athletic Club and has been a key player for all the coaches who have passed through San Mamés.

Íñigo has played more than 350 games in the top flight and also has experience in Europe where he has played 5 Champions League games, 5 Europa League games and 2 in the qualifying stages of that competition. His great performances at national level have earned him 20 caps for Spain.
