The MSN vs. Oblak: La Liga's best attack vs. La Liga's meanest defence

Messi, Suarez and Neymar will come up against La Liga's stingiest backline on Wednesday

Barcelona host Atletico Madrid on Wednsday in their fifth La Liga game of the season. The match, which kicks off at Camp Nou at 22.00h local time, will see the league's highest goal scorers take on the league's meanest defence. Second vs. fourth. It's going to be interesting.

In the last two seasons the meetings between the Azulgrana and the Rojiblanco, managed by Luis Enrique Martinez and Diego Pablo Simeone respectively, have been characterised by few goals and even games, although the Catalan side have been much more successful (seven wins in eight matches).

The first game of the new campaign looks set to follow a similar pattern. Barcelona are second in the table (nine points) and Atletico are fourth (eight points). Barça have shown off their attacking potential (13 goals, 3.25 per game) and Atletico have have once again been strong in defence (one goal against, 0.25 per game).

BARCELONA'S ATTACKING POWERS

Jornada 1: FC Barcelona-Betis 6-2 (Arda Turan, Messi -2- y Suárez -3-)

Jornada 2: Athletic-FC Barcelona 0-1 (Rakitic)

Jornada 3: FC Barcelona-Alavés 1-2 (Mathieu)

Jornada 4: Leganés-FC Barcelona 1-5 (Messi -2-, Suárez, Neymar y Rafinha)

ATLETICO'S DEFENSIVE POWERS

Jornada 1: Atlético-Alavés 1-1

Jornada 2: Leganés-Atlético 0-0

Jornada 3: Celta-Atlético 0-4

Jornada 4: Atlético-Sporting 5-0

On top of that, it also has the added morbo of Atletico having been the side who eliminated Barça from the Champions League last season. The two legged tie ended 3-2 on aggregate, with a handball inside the area by Gabi in the final stages of the second leg. Simeone could have a new plan this time, though, as he looks to improve on just one win against Luis Enrique's Barça.
