The Mirror: Manchester City pushing strong for Ajax's De Jong
Reports in England say the Premier League club want to tie a deal up as soon as possible
Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong is a target for Europe's niggest clubs. The Dutch side know they will have to sell in the summer and are working on fetching as much money as possible. Barcelona, who are interested in De Jong, will not get involved in a bidding war, while other clubs seem ready to go to any length possible.
That could be the case with Manchester City. According to The Mirror, they could have already reached an agreement to see off the competition from other clubs and sign the Dutch international. City see De Jong as the replacement for Fernandinho at the Etihad Stadium.
Despite Ajax denying as much, the Mirro say that City have agreed to pay the Eredivisie side 67 million euros, with Barça and Tottenham set to miss out on De Jong.
Ali Dursun, the player's agents, did not deny City's interest: "I can't confirm or deny that. You would have to ask [Ajax sporting director] Marc Overmars. I send all the clubs that contact me to him."
The signing of De Jong would see City add to their talented young squad. They have tried to sign young in recent seasons, with players like John Stones, Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus and Leroy Sane.
