The latest on Matthijs De Ligt's Juventus clause and Barça's interest

The defender's future could lie away from Turin

Matthijs de Ligt's Juventus exit is warming up. The Italian club's financial problems have led to them placing several players on the transfer market. They need a big sale and the Dutchman could be the chosen one.

Calciomercato reveal that De Ligt's clause is currently 120 million euros, but will rise to 140 million in the summer. The figure is high and Juve would be willing to half them in the case an interesting offer arrives for all three parties.

The main problem Juve have with De Ligt is his salary. They beat Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain to his signature but had to pay a high price to do so. Per the reports, he pockets eight million euros net per season plus a bonus of up to four million euros if certain objectives are met.

At that level, any deal for Barça is complicated unless the former Ajax man accepts a substantial wage cut to come to Camp Nou.

Juve paid 75 million euros for De Ligt but still owe Ajax 35 million, which is due in the summer. For that reason, they are open to recovering a large part of the 75 million paid for the defender.

Barça have all the information firsthand from his agent Mino Raiola and must make a decision. The club want to sign a top-level centre-back for their new project.
