The PSG sporting director has not given up on the idea of signing the Argentine maestro

According to Telefoot, PSG have not forgotten about Lionel Messi. As recognised by Leonardo, the sporting director, in the past, they are following the Argentine’s situation in Catalonia. In January he said that “big players like Messi are always on PSG’s wishlist, but of course it’s not the moment to talk or dream about it, but we’re sitting at the big table, following it closely.”

A month later he was more coy. “Sincerely, I don’t want to get into this debate, precisely because the respect has always been there. It’s not the moment to analyse this situation.”

Manchester City have not said anything about the player and indications are they won’t try and sign him on a free, for now. Messi’s contract expires in June.

“We are alert but there’s nothing,” said Leonardo in March. He is not forgetting Leo and Ronald Koeman previously said he’s been annoyed by it.

Barcelona are fighting for the double still and Messi is a key part of that. He is also waiting to see what new president Joan Laporta can offer in terms of a project for next season.

PSG have war on various fronts, with the complicated renewals of forwards Kylian Mbappe and Neymar also on their table. Both have deals that expire in 2022 and they need to resolve their future first.

At the same time, in France they say Ney is waiting for Barca. The Brazilian is not signing his deal, claim L’Equipe, in the hopes of meeting with Barcelona. Andre Cury said it too. “Neymar will play with Messi… but at Barca.”
