Tagliafico: Barça was a dream opportunity and Ajax did not help me

The left back was not allowed to depart on loan for Camp Nou by the Dutch club

Barcelona’s transfer window saw them bring in four players and it could have been five. They were trying to loan Ajax defender Nicolas Tagliafico, who could have added competition at left-back.

He spoke to AS about the window. “This market was ideal to look for playing time, giving me the chance to change environment, start from zero at another team and find new motivation. I feel that here, no matter if I keep a good level and work hard, I can’t compete for the place,” he said.

“In that moment I got an irrejectable offer and they did not let me go, and I was let down, I understand that it was not an easy situation, given we’re in January, but in the end both sides are hurt. Me, because I could not do what I wanted to, and the club, because they have me still.

“I feel opportunities, you can’t let them pass by, and this was a unique chance to be able to go to a club like Barca, for me it was a dream opportunity and in the end (Ajax) did not help me.”

Ajax director Marc Overmars said that the club did not let the Argentine go because there was no replacement for him.
