The taboo of selling Gavi or Pedri, the two Barça players with the most offers

Barcelona have players who could help them solve their financial problems but there are lines they wont cross

Barcelona president Joan Laporta explained in the recent Assembly that, despite the club's economic situation, they decided not to sell Frenkie de Jong for around 100 million euros. That is true, but it also had a lot to do with the player's position, who flatly refused to leave for Manchester United and avoided entering into negotiations that could have facilitated a move.

Barça's policy has always been clear and is to keep the players considered essential to form the starting XI, something that does not happen at Madrid. Florentino Pérez has no qualms about selling players, no matter how many stars they are. He did it with Cristiano Ronaldo and Casemiro and has done it with Karim Benzema to avoid paying him a very high salary. He chooses the right assets to sell in order to get a significant financial return and sign young players.

At Barça, the two most sought-after players on the market are Pedri and Gavi. And they are by far: Bayern, Chelsea, PSG, Manchester United... big clubs have them as potential future prospects in case the Blaugrana are forced, one day, to get rid of them out of necessity. The two players could easily pass the 100 million euro price tag with ease.

But Barça are not giving in. It is true that this issue has been discussed internally, but the clear conclusion is that these two names are taboo. The idea is to avoid their departure in the short and medium term. And that is why the two could revise their contracts upwards when they recently renewed their contracts, losing money with higher proposals outside Barcelona.

The red line marked by this board did cross with Ansu Fati, a player who is no longer considered strategic for the club and who they will try to sell definitively next summer if he has an optimal performance in the Premier League, something that for now is not happening although there is still a long season ahead.

Pedri and Gavi are, apart from being very important players in the team, two absolutely key assets for the economic future of the club. They are two players that could be used when necessary, although for now it looks like they will wear the Barça shirt for many more years.

And they are also two references of where the Blaugrana should be heading: one was signed at a ridiculously low cost and the other came out of La Masia, well-trained. Barça are more than ever obliged to take risky gambles in the market and to pull from the academy in order to, later on, make a profit or sell. And the news is good because the youngsters are coming on strong and are sure to generate vital income.
