Still no agreement for midfielder Gavi to renew Barcelona contract

The midfielder wants to renew but wants a deal fitting of his new status

Barcelona's priorities now the transfer window is closed are to renew the contracts of Gavi and Ronald Araujo, with negotiations underway, albeit not advanced.

In Gavi's case, talks in January served as the first step to a first offer that did not match the player's camp's expectations given he is now a regular for Spain and Barcelona.

Gavi is in no rush to renew. He is still 17. However, he wants to have his future sorted as soon as possible with many European clubs following the situation.

The player wants to stay at Barça and is not considering leaving, but does hope Barça will make an effort to show what he means to the club with a long-term contract fitting of his new status.

In principle, the problem with Gavi -- and Araujo -- is that they have seen players signed and renewed on big new deals, such as Ansu Fati, Pedri and Ferran Torres.

Both Gavi and Araujo are regulars in the team and hope to move up the salary rankings due to that. There's n doubt they want to renew, but Barça need to make everything fit within their spending limit.
