What is the status of Barcelona's €40 million 're-palanca' from Libero?

The money has not arrived but the rush now is not what it was in August

On 11 August, Barça announced a deal to bring in €60 million before the transfer window closed, which would allow them to register the players they had signed and renewed and others who were still to come. It reorganised the shareholding of Barça Vision and Libero Football Finance and Nipa Capital took a percentage of the shares from Socios.com and Orpheus Media, who had asked to postpone the payments they had agreed with the club for the month of July.

Nipa Capital put up €20m after the signing and a contract of intent was signed with Libero, who were due to put up €40 million by the end of August. The German fund, however, wanted to have more knowledge of the Barça Vision project and did not pay, with president Joan Laporta and his board of directors having to guarantee some €20m to be able to register all the players.

What is the situation with Libero at the moment? Barça has not broken off relations with the Germans, but does not rule out the possibility that the €40m will come from another investor. The club is unhappy with Libero, who is now willing to pay, but they are in no hurry now that the urgency they had, to register players, has been solved. For this reason, they are negotiating with the German fund with more favourable conditions for Barça, who are in no hurry. If they are not accepted, they will be able to look for another investor with the project already developed.

Fair Play

Of course, the €40m must arrive before the end of the year, as they must be used to give Barça more Fair Play. Half of it will allow Laporta and his directors to recover the €20m guarantee. The other half will be used to face a series of necessary operations.

The remaining €20m must create Fair Play to register Gavi's contract in LaLiga. The youth academy player is registered as a first-team player by court order, but the case is appealed and pending final resolution. Barça believe that this resolution will not take place until the end of the year or the beginning of 2024. However, they want to register Gavi for all intents and purposes as soon as possible.

In addition to Gavi's contract, the renewal of Xavi and the rest of the coaching staff will also have to be registered. And in January, with the Fair Play that all those millions create, Vitor Roque should arrive. The Brazilian signed for Barça for €30m plus another €31m in variables. He is still at Athletico Paranaense, but with the commitment to join the Catalan club in January. Finally, if there is still Fair Play, another signing could be considered. Xavi would like to double the deep midfield position, for which he only has Oriol Romeu.
