Spanish tax authorities want Samuel Eto'o jailed for 10 years

The former Blaugrana forward has been accused of witholding over £3 million from them while he played at the club

Spanish prosecutors want to send Samuel Eto’o to jail for 10 years for alleged tax crimes he committed while playing for Barcelona. They also want him fined £12m for four counts of tax fraud between 2006-09, where they claim he deprived the tax authorities of around £3.2m.

Eto’o is certainly not the first Barcelona player to be embroiled in tax issues, with Leo Messi and his father hit with prison sentences in July, although because they were under two years they did not have to serve them. Neymar and Barcelona are also currently accused of tax fraud for the transfer that brought him to the club in 2013.
