The new Spain coach was in Tangier to see the Super Cup and spoke about Pique's decision to walk away from international football

Spain's new head coach, Luis Enrique, was in Tangier to watch the Spanish Super Cup final and at half time he was interviewed by TVE.

Luis Enrique was interrogated about Gerard Pique's decision to quit international football. The coach admitted that he'd taken the time to discuss the matter with Gerard, "The situation is exactly as he told it. It's an irreversible decision. We gave him time to think about it but when we spoke he'd already made him mind up. There's no other choice but to accept his decision and recognise what he's done for the national team," he explained.

When Luis Enrique was presented as Spain's new head coach he said he had a list of 70 players in his mind. He's admitted his list is even longer now. "The problem is mine. Now I don't have 70 footballers, I have 72! I like to have options to choose form, I'm delighted." However he wasn't willing to divulge any names either. "We're going to wait and see the status of everyone. Surprises? They will be surprises, I'm sure."

His debut as Spain coach will be at Wembley. "I'm very excited and motivated. We're going to one of the homes of football and against an adversary who had a great World Cup. We're going to enjoy the match," Luis Enrique concluded.
