It seemed a given that the French centre-back was signing with Chelsea, but FC Barcelona have again burst into the scene to satisfy one of Xavi Hernandez's chief requests for his squad. The Barça coach has asked the Sevilla player about his plans and has allured the Gaul towards joining him. The next few hours will be decisive.
This Friday Thomas Tuchel was asked about the possibility of Koundé playing for Chelsea next season. "There is no news, the moment there is news I will tell you," the German coach simply pointed out. The blues coach, however, could not hide a smile that some fans have interpreted as a sign of optimism and others as an indication that negotiations for the central defender were getting complicated.
The latest information is that Barça have pulled an ace out of their sleeve to get ahead of Chelsea in the signing of Jules Koundé. When the agreement between Sevilla and the English club seemed closed, Barça made a comeback as Mateu Alemany offered a plan to make an offer and pay up the whole fees immediately, which the Sanchez Pizjua approved.
