The English club believe he will end up at Barcelona this summer

Manchester United, one of the clubs fighting with Barcelona for the signing of Ajax's Matthijs de Ligt, have ruled out moving for the Dutch defender, according to Sky Sports.

De Ligt's future remains up in the air as he and his agent Mino Raiola look to take advantage of his good form this season to land a bigger deal than they had anticipated.

United's name had gathered strength in recent days, with reports they were ready to match Raiola's demands -- as they did with Paul Pogba -- but now Sky Sports say they aren't prepared to pay the 80 million euros Ajax want plus the 14 million annual salary.

Sources close to United have confirmed to Sky Sports that the club will not move for the centre-back and that they are convinced he will end up at Camp Nou.

Barça, meanwhile, maintain their offer for the player but have opted against raising at following Raiola's attempts to re-open the negotiations.
